Need a good carpet cleaner…?

I’m in need of a carpet cleaner for home use. Heavy stains on the carpet seem to be a reoccuring nightmare. I hired some local steam cleaners to come out and do the carpets and they looked great but it was like 125 bucks. What’s a good model to get and where at? Regular carpet shampooer or steam?

help cleaning very dirty carpet?

I am trying to take an old dirty room in my house that currently serves as storage space into an office space. The only problem is the smell. It is horrible, it smells like any old room would, with gallons of urine and old food thrown into the mix. We used to have a dog and two kids that would spend all their time up there. My question is How Do I get rid of stains and smells that are years old out of my carpet? I had a professional steam cleaner come in, and even that wasnt enough. The smell was gone untill the next hot day, then it came back full force. It is very embarrasing to have people over, my home is pretty clean and neat untill you get to that room. I think the stains are ash, very black and dirty looking that would make anyone think twice before taking your shoes off to walk across. Any help would be appreciated, but please understand that I have been trying for a while and have used shampoos and hired a pro, nothing seems to work.

Carpet replacement in CA rental, who pays what amount?

have a very very good relationship with my current LL and am sad to go, but she’s got to sell the house. This is a gray area for me as I’ve never lived in a place that was going to be sold after I moved out, and I’m her first rental experience. I was hoping for some direction in terms of what the deposit goes toward.

The house is in generally good shape with some normal wear and tear (caulking in the shower, etc). The carpet is the biggest concern I have. When I moved in, it was mismatched. Generally good shape with a few stains here and there throughout the house, with one room being completely different carpet from the rest of the house and having some holes from burns or something. It may be a leap on my part to assume they’d need to replace the carpet prior to selling anyway but I never asked.

I kept the carpet in good shape until last month when ChattyLab barfed on SO’s watch. SO, meaning well, tried to clean it but instead of grabbing the carpet cleaner, he sprayed it down with Clorox clean up… I couldn’t get mad because he meant well but he didn’t look at the label at all. It resulted in 3 bleach spots in the living room, which the LL noticed during her walk thru a couple weeks ago. In a phone conversation she told me we’d have to discuss how I’d help with that since the carpet was destroyed.

She and I have an appt to go over the property post move out and discuss how the deposit will be applied. The biggest thing I can think of are these bleach spots on the carpet. What’s a fair amount for me to pay? Like I said, they likely would have had to replace it anyway but it doesn’t negate the damage my family did.

It’s a 4 bedroom house. The 3 spots are about 4" x 5-8" each.

Additionally, they told me they expected to do some remodeling and the house would get dirty. They told me they preferred I just move my stuff out and not do the super duper scrub down (again, house isn’t filthy but does need a mopping, scrubbing of shower/tub, normal stuff). They said they were going to have it professionally cleaned prior to showing and would hire a professional service and we could split the cost from my deposit.

I have NO idea how much this costs, and given that the house really isn’t grimy, aren’t sure which direction to go with this. I tend to think that the professional cleaning post remodeling would be their responsibility. I don’t want to make waves but I did plan on using the remainder of the deposit (originally 00) towards a new W/D and a deposit for my wedding dress.

Should I hire a cleaning lady, or clean the house myself?

I am not a neat-freak but our house is the typical house of a college student, with a little extra messiness (dog poop on the carpet, pennies, darkened carpet, stained carpet) etc. Some of the screws are coming loose on the doors, there’s dog poop & excessive vines on the balcony.

I mopped the whole kitchen (4 months after I moved in) and I had to mop with PineSol 4x & there was such dark gunk! There’s still more when I sweep with a wet Bounty, so I have more work to do.

The bathroom must be the same. My roommates live the party life or work a lot so they do their best, but are more on the lazy side. I love em, as they are my friends but… still. One roommate has left empty pizza boxes on the stove, went on vacation & they are there for the past 4 days.

I’ve already done a lot, organized things, cleaned some spider webs under the furniture, gotten rid of the ant infestation somewhat, the fly infestation due to rotten bananas is gone.

What can I do about the
- dirty carpet
- dirty floors
- dirty staircase (VERY DIRTY)
- messy basement (lots of cardboard boxes – attracts bugs)

Help! Impossible carpet stain.?

Unfortunately i have brand new white/cream colored carpet . I spilled half of a can of Diet Dr. Pepper Cherry which, due to my numerous attempts to remove, is now the size of a dinner plate. I do have resolve, and it has worked great up until this impossible stain. Immediately after the spill i soaked up as much as possible, then followed the resolve directions exactly. No difference. Tried a second application, still no luck. After rummaging through my house i came across Oxy Clean. Followed those directions to a T and- you guessed it- still no luck. PLEASE HELP

options i have considered so far:
-Solvent cleaner
-Renting a steam/commercial carpet cleaning machine
-Trial and error with every type of carpet cleaner i can find
-Hiring a professional

Thank you all in advance!

Can my landlord charge me a cleaning fee (not a carpet cleaning fee) even if I clean it to a sparkle?

My landlord refuses to allow me to clean my apartment myself before I leave. I understand he can charge me for carpet as obviously I can’t do that myself. In my contract it says two sort of contradicting things "The security deposit shall cover damage to the premises and/or property caused by the breach of the Agreement, including nonpayment of the rent: and cleaning the premises upon the termination or expiration of the tenancy." (which sounds to me like if I didnt clean he could take it out of my deposit to pay for cleaning. Not that he can charge me whatever he wants to have someone come clean it even if I do a good job. Then it says a few pages later "residents, upon vacating the premisses, shall clean the unit to the standard of a professional rental cleaning company or if they prefer, hire a company of the owners choosing, to accomplish the task, In this case the cleaning company will be….)" He actually didn’t write anything into the blank. Can he legally charge me to have a cleaning company come in ever if I clean it to the standard of a "professional rental cleaning company"?

how can I clean badly stained carpet?

I don’t want to hire someone to do this. I am willing to give it some elbow grease if I can find some type of cleaner that can remove the stains. It’s mostly coffee and pet stains and overall is just dingy.
