does anyone know if there are any carpet steam cleaners (that actually work good) on the market that you do not need to use a chemical cleaning solution in addition to the steam. I have a baby, so there are constantly messes, ie) spit up and pee getting on to my carpets. I want to clean them, however do not want to use any chemicals that he will come in contact with when on the floor.
I’m looking for a carpet cleaner that has a large recovery tank and can hold a lot of cleaning solution and water. I have a big house, so I need it to hold a lot.
I had some dirt spots in my carpet. I tried spot cleaning and then using my carpet cleaning machine to clean the rest of the carpet and to suck up the access water and cleaning solution were I hand scrub the carpet. After it dried up the spots are worse now? What can I do to correct this?
I’ve tried using boiled water and my steam cleaning machine, it mostly dry now. It look like it work, but I will know for sure by tommorow.

My NY eve party resulted in guest vomit on everything from my PS3 to my carpet. Setting my rage aside that night, in the absence of anything other cleaning solution we used dish detergent to clean up the mess. Now, the vomit is gone, but the green detergent streaks are readily visible on the carpet in three places. The soapy part is gone but the color is stained in. I’ve used 409 and Kids n Pets but it is not coming out. Any tips? Thanks!
I tried steaming my carpet with a Rug Doctor, and it didn’t work, so I bought a Bissell Proheat. I wanted to use up all the cleaner that I bought for the Rug Doctor before I purchase Bissell carpet shampoo for my new cleaner. The shampoo for the Rug Doctor says it’s compatible with all carpet cleaning machines, but the Proheat manual says only to use the Bissell products. I’m a little confused here. Should I use the Rug Doctor shampoo or not?
I know how to use the steam cleaner. I’m just wondering if a carpet shampoo that says it’s for all steam cleaners is safe to use in my Bissell or not if it doesn’t specifically say that it’s compatible with my Bissell cleaner.
So, @clayton, you’re saying that it would be best to make my own carpet cleaning solution with a recipe like this: 1 quart of soft water, 1/4 cup white vinegar or lemon juice, 2-4 Tablespoons human hair shampoo?
Ok, I have a very dirty carpet with dried on blood stains from one of my pets (He is ok, he had an infection) that’s been sitting there for a few weeks. The carpet has not been cleaned for three years, and is very dirty. The stain was pretreated immediately after the incident, but never got out. I am going to clean the carpet now, and here is my plan. I am going to get
- 1 Rental Bissell Big Green Deep Cleaner
- 1 Bissell Spotbot
- 1 box of Borax
- 1 box of Oxyclean
What should I use as the carpet cleaning solution?
Have any pretreat recommendations?

We borrowed a "steam cleaner" to clean the carpets in our house. The carpet isn’t horrendously dirty, but there are quite a few urine spots from our small dog (she has since become much better at house training, so some of these spots are at least a month old). The cleaner is a Bissell ProHeat Plus. What is the best cleaning solution to use with this cleaner with our carpet?
I think our steam cleaner is malfunctioning because it’s supposed to suck the water back up out of the carpet, but instead, it left the water and the carpet cleaning solution on the carpet. I tried it again to suck the water up, but it’s not working. There is now an awful mildew smell. What can I do to get rid of it?
While a babysitter was in charge of my kids, my 4 year old son managed to ruin the carpet in his room. I have no idea what the stuff is, it is clumped into his carpet and makes his room smell horrible. I have attempted to shampoo with deep cleaning solution and vinegar as well. Hoover’s printed material that came with the machine says that only Hoover products should be used because of potential electrical hazards. Hoover cleaning solutions are very expensive and I suspect that they may want to sell cleaning solution without any competition. Anyone have an answer?
