Hey! I just purchased a Hoover Steam Vac (it works amazingly!!). I’ve been doing my living room in thirds because I live in an appartment and I have to rearrange the furniture to make a "clear path" for the carpet to be cleaned. However, there is one piece of furniture I really can’t move (it’s incredibly heavy). Would it be okay to go around it with the steam vac and like use the hand held attachment around it? Or should I ideally find someone to help me move it? Also, if I do have to move it, how soon can it be moved back? Do you have to put foil under it (its wood) to prevent staining (I don’t know if that’s true or not)
Also, my carpet is a dark green color, if that matters…ha!

Okay, I did get the furnature moved (asked a neighbor to help), and steam cleaned that area and did several extra dry sweeps to get up excess water….how long should I wait to move the furniture back? How can you tell if carpet is REALLY dry – is dry to the touch really indicative of this?
I use a hoover steam vac. It works ok but does not get the carpets very clean. How can I get the carpets cleaner?
I will try the oxy clean. You sure it wont make the carpet cleaner foam up? will it hurt the carpet?
What about carpet cleaners with oxy clean in them?

I am looking for a cleaner that will perform well on my tile floors and do well with the grout lines. I considered the Hoover Floor Mate, but some reviews say that grout lines are it major weakness. I currently have a collection of Swiffers, a Shark Steam Vac, an upright vacuum, and an ordinary push mop…
Anyone have any suggestions that could cut down on that collection of cleaners and perform well as a multipurpose tile floor cleaner without sacrificing the grout lines???
I have a spot about 2 ft by 7-8 ft where my dog has peed on the carpet. It’s dried now, and the smell is awful. We have a steam cleaner, and were going to put vinegar and water in the tank, and use that to clean the carpet. I have heard vinegar works well. However, I have heard conflicting ideas about whether to use hot water, or just cold water. I’ve heard hot water binds the protein of the urine into the carpet – then someone will turn around and say steam cleaning works. Hot or cold water? And do I use baking soda on the carpet to further neutralize the odor once it’s dried? Any help/experience with this gross problem would be appreciated! Thank you.
Also, I’ve been told to "pretreat" the area with a carpet cleaner. These tend to make me sick (allergies), so I was just going to use the vinegar solution in the steam vac.
We live in a rented apartment, so we do our best to keep our very light coloured carpet clean. We have two cats, so needless to say I’m used to having to do the odd spot cleaning (i use Simple green) and about once a year or so I use a steam vac throughout the whole place.
I’ve noticed there’s this one stain, fairly large in size, that seems to disappear after I do the steam cleaning and slowly (within a month if not a little more) starts to reappear, I’ve tried scrubbing it over and over…nothing
Any suggestions?
By the way, the stain is like a dark grey I can’t tell what is it though..and my carpet is a light beige type color.

Also – I used the bottle of Hoover Deep Cleaning that came with the steam vac, but its all used up. Stores around here only seem to carry resolve, oxy, and bissell carpet cleaners – any suggestions on good ones that don’t have a lot of perfumes?

I’m talking about diluting it with water and putting it IN my Hoover Steam Vac. I used Tide laundry detergent one time when I had just run out of carpet shampoo and needed to clean the carpets in a rush (it was probably the night before Thanksgiving as well) and it worked incredibly well.
Any recipes? I don’t have vinegar to add to any recipes right now.
